I made drawstring jewelry pouches that I'll be filling with the jewelry I will be making for each of my BMs, my FG, my mom and FMIL. What do you think? The steps are at the end of the post.

This was my trial attempt, but I included the picture so you could see it laid out flat before putting in the drawstring.

1. You'll need two circle patterns. I used a plate and a soup bowl, but I would recommend something larger. Mine were roughly 9" and 7" diameters, but I wish they would have been bigger. I'd suggest making a 12" and 10" template out of cardstock (if cutting by hand with scissors) or cardboard (if cutting with a rotary blade).

2. Choose your fabric. Make it light! the thicker the fabric, the more annoying it'll be later on. No felts! (personal trial and error discovery).

3. You'll need to cut two large circles and two small circles. In case you have different patterns, I'll refer to each circle as BigOutside, BigInside, SmallOutside, and SmallInside.

4. Lay your big circles together, with right sides facing eachother, sew together by machine around the edge, leaving a 1 to 2 inch gap.

5. Reach inside what you just sewed and pull the circles inside out so that the good sides are on the outside.

6. Sew a hidden seam like you would on a pillow along that gap you left so that all the raw edges are on the inside and you've got a front and a back to your big circle.

7. repeat steps 4-6 for the little circles.

9. Fold your big circle in half with the outside fabric touching, then in half again so the the inside is showing.

10. fold the little circle the same way with the inside fabric showing.

11. match the corner of little circle to the corner of the big circle.

12. unfold everything and make sure your little circle is centered on the big circle, with Small-Inside touching BigInside.

13. Pin the circles together.

14. Sew a straight stitch about a 1/4" away from the edge of the little circle.

15. Sew a straight stitch about 1/4" (or enough space to fit a safety pin through) away from the last stitch, moving closer to the big circle edge. These two lines of stitching will become the casing for your drawstring.

16. Fold the whole piece in half, push hard to form a temporary crease.

17. Open the fold and sew along that crease from one end of the small circle to the other end of the small circle. Do NOT sew through the casing you just made.

18. Fold the hole piece in half again, this time match either end of your last line of stitching to the other so that you're creating a four-square grid.

19. open the fold and sew along the crease again. Now you have four pouches.

20. Fold the whole thing in half again, matching each line's end to each other. Make a crease.

21. open the fold and sew along the crease...repeat these steps until you've got 8 total pouches, with no lines of stitching going through your casing. Remove the pins from step 13 as needed. They were just there until you made sure the little circle wasn't moving. Make sure all your lines cross at a single point.

22. Create a smal 1.5 to 2 inch diameter circle out of cardboard, poke a hole through the center.

23. lay the cardboard circle in the center of your little circle, matching the hole you poked through the cardboard to the point where all your lines crossed.

24. Sew a straight stitch around that cardboard circle. I just put the cardboard on top of my fabric and sewed around it with my machine so that I wouldn't have to draw on my fabric.

24. Flip your pouch over so that BigOutside is facing you.

25. Cut a small slit in the casing you created for the drawstring.

26. Tie the drawstring you want to use to a safety pin.

27. feed the safety pin around the pouch through the casing and back out the hole you just cut.

28. cut the drawstring to your desired length and tie a knot on the end.

29. carefully sew by hand around the hole so it doesn't fray, making sure not to stitch through the drawstring.

30. This step is unnecessary but I sewed an initial charm to each bag to add a personal touch to each of my girls' bags.

Unless I forgot something, you should now be finished! Let me know if anything was confusing. Happy sewing!
