I saw a really neat DIY tutorial for personalizing a canvas bag and was inspired to make them for my bridesmaids. This was so cheap and very easy to do.
I didn't bother getting the adhesive spray and it wasn't an issue at all. When I experimented before starting, I found that rather than a traditional paint stroke over the doily, I had better luck with a tapping motion; that got the paint into the smaller holes better. Also, I realized that I could either paint on the outside edge of the doily or not, and they both returned a slightly different look.
I didn't use the freezer paper for the letter - just found a font I liked and then printed/cut/traced them onto the bags.
I think it probably took no more than 30 minutes a bag from start to finish. I'm also planning on making a zip pouch out of fabric (which will match their individual fabric flower bouquets) to go inside that I'll fill with day-of-wedding essentials.
I didn't have a hard time with the doily moving around. Once there was some paint on it it held it's place pretty well. The few times it did move, getting in back in place was easy and I didn't see any smudge issues.
The font size ended up being around 400 or so. It was essentially two letters per page in landscape view.

posted by callierf 7 months agoI am heading to Hobby Lobby this weekend to find these supplies and I was wondering what size bag you used and what size were the doilies?
posted by MrsDiddles 7 months agoThe canvas bags (which I bought from a fellow bee!) are around 16 x 14 and the doilys were 10inch.
posted by callierf 7 months agoI have a doilie theme going on in my wedding thus far. I'm wondering...Did you use a paper doilie or a lace doilie or a crochet doilie?
posted by mrsvarble 6 months agoIt was a paper doiley. I got a pack of 10 of them from Michaels Crafts for like $5.
