Who wants a boring cake table? What- you want a square table with a white cloth over it? Lame-o!!! I wanted something fun, and beautiful to display the cakes I will be hand making myself. 3 of them!. 1 tiered cake and two single layer cakes.
So- I started checking out craigslist for a few weeks for vintage vanities or sideboards. After a couple of weeks, I finally found something that moved me. It's a vintage vanity that had a broken mirror. Here is the before picture straight from the ad (mind you- this was only $40!) It was so cheap because it didn't have a mirror. Who wants a vanity without a mirror? This girl!
Here are some photos when I brought it home and prepped it for painting:
And after a couple layers of paint......
Targhee! Get outt there!!! Sorry about that- back to the progress... Primer....
and the pink...
And then recall that mirrorless mirror area? Yep, it was perfect for my idea. Chalkboard spray paint did the trick....
And the finished product (those flowers, etc will not be used for the wedding- they are just display for now. The cake stands will be used and a cake will also be on the lower level- the tiered cake) with these types of cakes:
Here it is (minus the "distressing I will do with sandpaper to give it a weathered look)! The chalkboard will display cursive script of marriage advice my grandma gave me in October shortly after she had her stroke and a month before she passed. That way, we can include her in our special day....
And this goes along with the theme of my DIY entryway piece (another great craigslist find!)
thanks everyone! @meowmix318- it was actually pretty easy. Paint is fairly cheap and the vanity was cheap. I would say in total it cost me $55 to make this vanity. The cake stand on the left I paid $75 for!! The vanity was cheaper than the cake stand. And I will likely be able to turn around and resell it on craigslist for what I bought it for, or put into it, or maybe even more after the wedding. So totally worth a few hours of time!! :P That's my philosophy for most of my wedding decor- put the imte and energy into it and hopefully resell it later to make the $$ back.... :)

Thoughts? Suggestions on distressing it, etc?
Thanks!
