ccranetobe's very bright card box :D

posted 2 years ago in Cardbox

So it took me about 4hrs to make my card box, with a few interruptions and a few posts on WB to get more inspiration. I am not very good at explaining things so I am apologizing in advance. If your not sure of anything or want me to clarify a bit more, please post in the comment section and Ill answer as best I can.

Materials: Boxes, Ribbon, Rope, stanley knife, LOW temp glue gun and sticks (I used about 5 -7 sticks, I cant remember exactly, so Ill say 10 for you to be sure if your purchasing these from scratch)

Select majorly cute boxes from discount store! Total Price - $16.45 (I chose these boxes because the pattern was suitable and I wouldnt have to recontact it in differant colors to match my color scheme. I like simplicity when it comes to big projects.)

Stack them to get your order and overall look. I was tossing up wether to only have three boxes. But FH seems to think the bigger the box the more cards?

I had bought a rotary cutter because they said on the packet that it was easier to cut in small places and more control. Load of codswallop! I ditched it after one box in cutting out the middle and went on to the stanley knife. Note: not a neat look but its inside the box and not on the outside, so Im not too fussed. Also when cutting use the same size sqaure hole when cutting every other box and lid, just because the box is bigger doesnt mean that the hole needs to be bigger too!)

Time to get out the glue gun. There are two things to use it on. A border around OUTSIDE on the BOTTOM of each box to secure it to each level so it holds together. And glue INSIDE the boxes to secure the lids together, minus the top one! (because you want to be able to access this.

Picture: me starting to glue the bottom of the boxes.

Once finished glueing box looked like this..

It is very rough and trimming with a stanley knife isnt easy. But remember.. its on the inside of the box, not the outside! so dont stress!

Also with the top lid I inserted my card slot. It was nearly the whole width of the top lid, but enough to fit an C6 sized envelope. (a bit bigger than the average envelope)

I decided because the stanley knife was a bit rough on the top lid, I needed rope to hide it the rough cutting and add abit of color to the box.

I proceeded with the hot glue gun again running around the side of each box.

Box completed with rope.

I decided that it was good enough, but lacking something. I stopped here because I didnt want to stuff anything up by adding more... until I saw pictures of a card box using ribbon. I had orange ribbon already and decided to add this to polish it off.

Using the same technique of going around the box, I went on the side of the lids doing one side at a time. Because the glue gun leaves a raised glue... dont press it too hard to smooth it out. Just lightly run your figure over the ribbon when your gluing to make sure the ribbon stays!!!

Finished product!

The project was a lot easier than I thought originally to do. If you do things in stages you should be fine.
