At first I was going to buy the customized wire hangers, but I read that they are not strong enough to hold dresses for prolonged periods of time. Also, I really didn't want to fork over $20 per hanger.
So I bought these sturdy wood hangers on clearance for 1.15/hanger at Wal-mart. I used silver 24 guage floral wire ($1.00 for a big spool) for the names. I used thin wire because it was easier to form curvy letters, and I doubled it in many places to make it bolder. I attached each name with two ribbons that doubled as the portion of the hanger to keep dresses up.
Thanks ladies! I hope that you try this too. They were so easy and cost so little to make. I am making these for my bridesmaids and both of our moms. I will post pics of the moms' when I get them finished. I am making them a bit differently (I am attaching their names to the bottom rod) and I am going to paint "mother of the bride or groom" on the wooden part. I can't wait to get them finished! I'll post more pics when I do.
I just finished making my own version of the "name hanger"...I just used a plastic hanger because it was supposed to just be a practice hanger, but I plant to transfer it to a wooden one later. Here it is...what do you think?
