Delicate Doily Inspired Clay Ring Bowl

We had been looking into a ring bowl for a while and then I stumbled upon a blog that had a great tutorial for a DIY clay ring bowl. We ended up creating a ring bowl (more like saucer haha) of our own, just using the tutorial for inspiration. It's a German blog and a lot of the materials my SO and I couldn't find anyways. It's actually a pale pink colour, but the design wouldn't show up with the flash and our living room lighting turned it an ivory colour. We ended up mixing white and "ballerina" pink clay from Michael's. We only used about 1/4 of each package, so you could definitely get away with just using half of one package.

We used Sculpey oven-bake clay in white and ballerina pink. They were almost $4 each and were the only materials for this project. In total the whole thing only cost around $8! (:

First we mixed equal parts of pink and white together. It took a while to get rid of the "tie-dye" type effect, but after smushing and warming the clay it blended really well. We rolled out the clay until it was about half a cm thick and formed it into a circle. Next we took a doily that we had in the house and pressed our favourite part of it into the clay, it didn't make much pressure to get a pretty pattern!

Then we poked two holes in the top of the clay with a pen and rolled the edges up a little so that it resembled a saucer. While FI preheated the oven to 275 F, I put the ring bowl on some parchment paper and placed the whole thing on a baking sheet. Because the bowl was a little under 6mm we baked it for 10 minutes. The package said to bake the clay 15 minutes for every 6mm, 10 minutes was the perfect amount of time.

The last thing we did was add a bow on the top and sand the sides to make them smoother. For the ceremony we'll add twine instead of yarn, but right now the yarn does a good job of showing what it'll eventually look like.
