Here is my first attempt at my centerpiece, I'm pretty thrilled with how it came out. So much more easier than I anticipated too! Got the supplies at Jamali Garden. For those brides in the NYC area it is totally worth making a visit to the store instead of just buying from their website:jamaligarden.com
Not only is it beneficial to see all the products in person but everything is cheaper in the store than online so you'll save money!
I swear to god when I posted this there was a picture, don't know what happened but here it is again:
I used an 8" Oasis sphere, soaked it in water for about 10 minutes. The carnations were clipped so the stems were about 2" long. All you have to do then is push the carnations into the sphere, making tight and even rows all around. I used about 60 carnations.
This is exactly what I wanted to do for my centerpieces! I was going to pay for a florist because I thought it would be too difficult. Can you tell me how you did this step by step? Also how long it lasted too??
sorry it took me so long to reply back to you ladies!
it took about 15 minutes to make one centerpiece. and it lasted a good 5 days before the flowers edges started to brown. my wedding isn't until june, i plan on making these 2 days before the wedding.
these are regular sized carnations and i will be ordering them wholesale (they are .55-.70 cents per stem depending on where you order them from). the oasis spheres are $10.99. and the urns were about $20 each. The total cost of everything for 15 centerpieces will come to about $900.
here's the step by step:
1. Soak the oasis sphere in a large container of water for about 10 minutes until the entire sphere is dark green (you have to rotate the ball).
2. While the ball is soaking start cutting the stems off so that the carnation bud has about 2 inches of stem left.
3. When the sphere is soaked place it in the urn.
4. Starting from the top of the sphere push the stems into the sphere and make a straight line of carnations down the side of the sphere. Push each carnation close to the next, the flowers should be touching one another.
5. Do this same thing on the opposite side and then again on the other half of the sphere. It should look like a cross of carnations through the sphere making four "quadrants".
5. Fill each quadrant with carnations, tightly next to one another.
6. Fill in any gaps when you're done.
One a side note, if you're using a metal container like I did you have to first prep the container with an anti rust spray like Rust-Oleum. I didn't do this the first time, when I took the sphere out to throw it away the entire inside of the pot had rusted. Not good for the flowers and not good if you want to resell the containers after your wedding.

posted by alishadhs4 2 years agoYes, I second a previous poster's question - how far in advance can you make this?
Also, how long did it take you to make it?
