I made our guestbook pages using Adobe Illustrator. Each sheet was 8x8 inches in size and was designed to fit into a scrapbook album after the wedding. It took a lot of cutting and printing to get these down to size. In hindsight, it would have been easier to make these 8.5x8.5 inches in size so that I would have only had to do one cut from the 8.5x11 inch paper that we printed on.
Our guests loved filling out these sheets. Most of them had never seen a guestbook like this before. They were used to signing their names on a line.
My husband and I loved reading the pages after the wedding. Some of them were quite hilarious. Others offered great advice. Some people (we don't know who) even filled out extra sheets and pretended to be famous people like ZZ Top. The drawings that people made of themselves and of the bride & groom were quite funny too.
These artistic guestbook pages fit perfectly with our venue - which was an Art Center.
Here are what some of the sheets looked like after they were filled out at the reception:
Here is how I had the guestbook table set up during the reception:
The idea for these came from www.guestbookstore.com They can run into some money to buy from the site itself so I have been planning on making my own too. Here are the pics from their site though so you can see the back page of them also. The guests fill out both sides of the page then you can put the book together after the honeymoon. They come in casual and formal so I have included all 4 pics so you can make your own versions. Hope this helps with your questions =)
@be2much4u2handle - yep that's right. I had first seen the idea when another bride posted about it on the craigslist wedding forum. She must have found the idea from the guestbook store. The signs that I had on the table were actually emailed to me as a pdf from the other bride. The actual guestbook sheet I made myself in AI.
We had 110 guests at the reception. I don't think it took everyone a long time to fill it out but a lot of people definitely spent some time on it. Some people were really artistic and went all out on the advice too.
We didn't have someone walk around to collect the sheets. Instead we had a table set up for the guestbook sheets. At this table the guests picked up the sheets and something to write with. There was also a large basket at this table for them to return the sheets to when they were done. I did hear that a few people's sheets never made it to the basket. Apparently they had left their sheets on the table because they weren't done with them and then the wait staff threw them away later in the night! That made me upset and sad! I still don't know why the wait staff would do that. Oh well...
And yes, the sheets were double-sided. The first picture shows the front side and the second picture shows the back side.
I love this idea. Can you please tell me if you still have the templates for the signs for the table. I have the sheets but I would love the signs. If you do can you email me at phillygirl44@hotmail.com
