DIY Hot Pink carnation Centerpiece : wedding diy hot pink carnation centerpiece DSC00321DIY Hot Pink carnation Centerpiece : wedding diy hot pink carnation centerpiece DSC00331Ladies please tell me what you think.  The vase was $4.00 at Walmart, the ribbons were $1.50 each at Walmart, The black rocks were $3.00 a bag of which I only used half, anf the carnations were from the wholesale flower market at .19 cents each.  i used about 50 tems to make it look full.  I would need about 15 of these for the reception.  Roughly each would cost around $13.00 to 15.00.

I am on a mission for vases for my wedding and I have found that you can get them for a fraction of the cost at second hand stores such as Good Will.  Also, if you have time to wait till next summer go to some garage sales and I'm sure you will suprise yourself how cheap they are.  I need over 20 vases and know that I will never use them again, so I don't want to spend that much on them.  Just an idea to help you save a few dollars.

I think they look great though, very full & I love the color.  Have you tried just using the black ribbon?  I think that the pick ribbon might take away from the beaty in the black ribbon...just a thought :)

What flower wholesaler did you use?

Keep us updated on what you decided!

Love the centrepiece - i'm trying to convince my fiance on carnations and this is perfect to show him!

I agree with lellingen about using only the one ribbon. what about alternating pink only on some tables, and black on the others?

Thanks ladies.  I will take your advise and use either alternating ribbons or just the black one.

Snowflake while I was at the wholesale flower warehouse (BTW lellingen its called Potomac Florists in Silver Springs, MD)  I met a florist who told me that carnations are the new roses.  Thery're inexpensive, come in various colors, and looks beautiful if done rignt.

These centerpieces are super cute!  Damask patterns are easy to find, even black lace is super pretty, and you could easily incorporate this these elsewhere in the wedding.  I agree to sticking to one ribbon over using both.  Maybe find a thicker damask or a thick solid pink to layer underneat the black ribbon?  And not to be picky, but if you lowered the water level you could hide it with the ribbon.  :)

Carnations are hardy and they require less prep than roses...plus they come in pretty colors and they smell great!  Good pick!

I might try something similar using narrower vases from the dollar store and doing a trio at each table.

Thanks classysolo.  I've been looking at that picture and had the same idea the water after the 101th look...lol.  You're not being picky at all.  You're think like a bridewould for her wedding.  Thanks again....oooo and great idea about the layering of the ribbons.

I think it looks great.  I'm doing Damask with pink flowers too.  Love your idea..and it's pretty darn cheap!

I love this centerpiece; it looks amazing!! Great job!! Roughly $15 each is a pretty good price!! How many carnations did you use for each vase?

Thanks.  Considering a florist wanted to sharge me $75 per centerpiece and it wasnt as nice and bold as thi one, I would say it's pretty cheap too.

I used about 25-30 to give it that tight full look.  However depending on the vase and how short you cut the stems you may need less.

I'm looking at doing the same idea for my centerpieces. How did you attach the ribbons? I'm having a hard time figuring out how to not get glue marks, but not using it at all and just tying them leaves them slipping off the vases. What did you use?

Hey Spatchet,

I used the dots but you could also use double sided tape.  Either are not noticeable because the flowers hides it.  Good luck and happy planning.
