When I saw that most bouquets in Maui had starting price of $150.00 I decided to try to do my own flowers. Last night my bridesmaids and I put together a trial run bouquet to make sure we would be able to do it when we arrived on Maui in December. I purchased 100 green orchid blossoms for $19.99 and 10 blossoms in pink, purple, and white at six cents a piece. I also purchased floral tape, floral wire, ribbon, and the fake berries. In total this only cost me about $25.00 to make! With the remainder of the flowers my fiancé and the groomsmen put together the garland shown in the picture below the bouquet. We were all new at this and it took us about an hour to put it together, so it's not as symmetrical as i'd like it to be. But I think with a little more practice, patience, and time my bouquets will turn out great! I'm so excited!!
I was quoted around $500.00 for an orchid garland to go on my bamboo arch. We will spend around $100.00 for 500 orchid blossoms and make one ourselves!
Courtney:I order from both wholesale-tropical-flowers.com and geckofarms.com.They were both pretty cheap and the packages arrived safely and on time. The most expensive thing was probably shipping, but it will save me a lot in the long run! Also, this is the video that my inspiration came from: http://www.diynetwork.com/videos/stunning-orchid-bridal-bouquet-video/6549.html.
The orchids I ordered weren't as big as the ones in the video so I think next time around I'm going to order a stem of the cymbidium orchids to make my bouquet look fuller.
