Hi hive! My first DIY post! I made these peacock feather boutonnieres in about 6 hours. I used peacock eyes, black stripped coque feathers, ostrich fringe and peacock tail feathers purchased from ebay for a steal! I also used remnants of french tulle from my DIY birdcage veil. The jewels are hotfix gems but I used super glue for them.
I used a combination of hot glue and super glue to secure stuff.
First I used a very narrow piece of cardstock to have a surface to glue the feathers to. I layered and arranged the items as I wished and hot glued away. The fringe and coque feathers are on a fringe so I used the ribbon fringe edge as another surface for glueing as well.
After everything was hot glued together I used floral stem tape around the bottom to make a "stem". I then used 5/8" Black satin ribbon and super glued it as I wrapped it to secure it. Lastly, the jewels. UGH! I used tweezers to move these tiny things and super glue to affix them. First I would put a drop of glue in the ribbon where I wanted the jewel, then I would use the tweezers to set it down. This was a pain, but very worth it.
The fans are what my girls will be carrying in leiu of bouquets. This pic was a hasty mock-up where I just put the feathers behind the fan for a rough idea. The actual project will be much nicer :-) I bought the fans from jadetime.com-who I HIGHLY recommend!
I used inspiration from etsy as a starting board, and supplemented with hive and offbeatbride DIY. I am really happy with them! The next project is the corsages. All the "Floral" elements in my wedding will be feathers.
We are doing the same thing with the boutonnieres! Thanks for posting how you did them, I have been worried I wouldn't be able to figure it out when the time came. They turned out fabulous by the way!
Maxine my wedding is in July so I dont know how they will look. We arent doing tuxes so well see lol.
I am passing corsages off to my wedding planner/florist. She will do something that compliments the bouts but I am in nursing school and simply cant to anything more. It sux cuz I MISS my DIY projects!
We, too, are having the groomsmen wear peacock boutineers. I'm an artist and love all things DIY and crafty--anything that helps us save money for our big day will help! Gorgeous, thank you! I didn't realize how simple it is to create these. Well done, they are going to be gorgeous for your wedding. Best wishes to you and thank you! I can't wait to make these with all the girls!
