So I did a lot of research online and decided to make my own pocketfolds (5"x7") since I could make them for about $.20 each. The cheapest I could find them for pre-made was about $.84. I chose to use the 80lb weight because it was cheaper, didn't split on the edges, and would cost less in postage. The cheapest place to purchase paper is easily Anchor Paper company. They are wonderful!
Anyhoo....I used 12x12 paper, but you can easily use 8.5x11 too.
First, cut the paper to 7"
Use a scoring blade or a bone folder to score the paper at 9" and again at 4".
Use a mold to create the point of the flap. I created the mold by cutting the mold at an angle .5" in with the point in the middle (about 3.5"). Mark the pocketfold with a pencil. Use the paper cutter to cut along the marked lines.
Fold along the creases. Turn the pocket fold so the pointed flap is on the left side.
To make the pocket:
Using the same paper as the pocket fold that measures 4.5" x 3.5", score the 3.5" side of the paper at the .5" mark. On the 4.5" side, score the paper at the .25" mark on each side.
Cut the corners off at a slight angle.
Fold the paper along the creases.
With the sides folded in, use a mold (made similiar to the other mold, but the inverse) to mark the pocket. Use sissors to cut along the lines.
Use a dot roller along the folded in flaps.
Stick the pocket onto the larger paper.
And there you go!
They are actually really easy to make and save a ton of money. Hope this helps! Good luck
Thanks! If you need more tips or suggestions I uncovered while making them, just let me know.
tootie664: I tried using a 105lb paperweight, but they didn't close well and they split on the sides. I struggled for weeks about the paperweight as I thought the 80lb might be too flimsy, but after adding an invitation mat, they were quite sturdy. The 80lb is also cheaper and will need less postage. It might solve your problem, but that is just what I discovered. Good Luck!
Thank you, Meskimk for the tutorial and All for your comments - very helpful! I am 99% sure we'll be using the pocket fold style for our suites and appreciate this.
Actually, my mother bought it several years ago. I think you can still get something like it at a place like office max, staples, office depot, etc. Craft stores may have it to. It is fiskars. They make a ton of great products. Good luck!
