DIY: Swarovski Monogrammed Cake Topper : wedding cake rhinestone swarovski monogrammed cake topperr DSC04233

I'm helping my brother and his fiance plan their wedding (December 4, 2010).  I'm actually in charged of all the wedding decorations.  So here's a posting of one of my DIY projects that I've done, their cake topper.  My FSIL wanted a monogrammed cake topper covered in crystals.  So I purchased the initials and Swarovski crystals from Ebay and spent about 2 hours on it.  It turned out better than I thought and I'm glad I didn't purchase the pre-made ones.

Their wedding theme is "Diamonds are Forever" so everything is BLINGED out...LOL.

Where on ebay did you buy your letters from? I really want to do the letters for my cake but I can't seem to find a reasonable price anywhere for the letters.

Hi Ladies!!  I bought the three monogrammed topper from Ling's Supplies on Ebay (AKS font).  It was sold in a set of 3 in silver for $24.99+$5.99 for shipping.

I purchased the 10gross pack (1440 pcs) of SS9 Swarovski Crystalss from Ebay also.  Here's a link to the seller.   It was $41.99 with free shipping and I used almost all of the beads on the three initials.  You may be able to find a better price put I chose them during the time that I purchased by supplies.

I purchased Gem-Tac and Positioner Jewel Setter Tool from a seller by the name of Beadaholic.  The Gem-Tac dries clear and is much easier to use than E6000.  The positioner has wax on one end to help you pick up the crystals and the other in is pointed to allow to position the stones where you want it.  Rub the wax end with your fingers to creat a pointed shape, helps pick up the crystal easier.

I pour some glue on a plastic plate along with the crystals.  I used a small flat painter's brush to brush a thin layer of the glue onto the the initials and started placing the crystals on  top of the glue.  Do a small section at a time until you get use to the technique.  It was very simple.

Hope this helps.  So for three initials, I spent less than $90.  One pre-made initiial crystal cake topper is more than $90 so it was worth the time.  Let me know if you need any help.

Hi FutureMrsMeinhardt....I'll ask my future sister in law and will let you know.  Their wedding is December 4 so hopefully your wedding is not before then.  Are you wanting all three initials or just one? The H & M are smaller is size compared to the D.

Oh my gosh!  These look amazing!!!  I've been searching for a G forever and like the rest of the posts can't find a reasonable price!  I think I'll try this! :) Thanks for the info!

Question - for the 3 letters....what is the total width and the total height?

I love it!! My theme was rhinestones & feathers and I wanted the Swarovski Crystal flutes for our toast but they were expensive, so I got flutes at Old Time Pottery for $3 each and my MOH helped me hot glue rhinestones to the base of the flutes, then we added a feather for an extra touch of elegance :)
