So we are doing a fall theme for our wedding this october. I came across a picture of a mason jar with leaves and a candle in the jar....I thought it was so simple yet romantic.
So for mine I bought simple canning jars ones with no writting on them (about 24 total=$15 at walmart!), some twine ($3 for 550 yards) and a bunch of leaves(from a garage sale $3).
I began to place the leaves in the jars after cutting them with a little stem on them...made them look a little more natrul. I was able to stick them to the glass with a glue dot that i had left over from my save the dates! I put about three leaves in each jar and then tied the twine around the top into a bow.
So the future hubby likes them but I am torn....I dont know if I should keep them this way or go back and move the leaves down to the bottom of the jar like in the original picture.
very cute idea! I think it just depends how much you want the flame to be showing or how much light it would give off.... with the picture at the top, you can see all of the flame over the tops of the leaves... on yours it'll probably glow behind the leaves a little bit more, just peeking out.
Thanks...I was thinking it would be a little more fallish with the candle now showing and just having the light come through the leaves to give it more that orangish reddish glow...but i didnt know if it looked right having the leaves up that high!
So my MOH had some concerns on the leaf placement so we tested it out...She didnt want the leaves catching on fire...lol...she thinks of the little things like that....that is why I keep her around...well to make a long story short....we are very happy with the out come....the are better then I ever thought they would look. I am so happy with them and I am glad I placed the leaves where I did!
I love them but yes, the last thing you want is a fire! In the original picture it looks like the candle was inside a votive holder inside the jar. Not sure if you are doing that but may be worth it just not to stress out about it... and keep in mind that the bottom of the little metal trays the tea lights come in gets super super hot. So I would do a test run for as long as your reception will be just to make sure.
Other than that they are super super cute - really love them, great job!!
I really like this idea! I'm also doing a fall theme for my wedding in October 2012. This is beautiful. I've been trying to think of how to do aisle decorations and I think I've decided to hang mason jars from shepherd's hooks and this is the perfect way to dress them up! I think I might use the fake tealights though in case they get bumped. Super cute!!
We are planning on using votives in a glass jar just like the original picture....tealights dont stay lit long enough, they only stayed lit for like 2 1/2 hours....our reception is about 5+ hours. If all else fails and I can not find little glass cups cheap enough...we will be going with the battery tealights!
I cant wait to start my other DYI projects for the wedding....we have to make the flowers for the guys and our parents, our pew bows (super excited about those), our unity candle, and the decorations for our ceremony! I am super excited!
Look for my save the date magnets and the flower girl buckets and ring pillow!
I have been thinking of doing something similar. I have been saving the glass bottles from tomato sauce, peanut butter, and what ever I am using that I would normally throw away. I soak the bottles in water to get off the labels and put them in the dishwasher. If you are on a budget that will save you some money.

I think both would be pretty!

The glue dots will not hold after 2 hours...the glass gets to warm and the glue unsticks!
I decided to use decopash instead....works wonderful! Just follow the directions on the bottle!
The leaves will not lay totaly flat up against the glass but the outer edges of the leaves will and that is really all you need to have a good hold.
I tested it after I let it dry for a hour.....I burned a candle in the jar for 2 and 1/2 hours and nothing moved!
I used the glossy finish decopash....this will dry crystal clear!
