I used gold metallic cardstock from Michaels and ivory cardstock. I printed the names onto the ivory cardstock and cut them out using a paper cutter, then used a dove shaped hole punch to punch the bird out. I wrote the table numbers in at the last minute using a gold pen (as my mom wanted the flexibility to move people around if people were unable to come at the last minute).
Inside every escort card I wrote each guest a note telling them why they were special to me/us and how happy we were to have them there. Everyone really seemed to love the "surprise" messages...
Here's a photo of my cousin's son helping my grandfather read his message...
And a closeup of a card from when I was making them (before I added the table #)...
jenbob555 - Thanks! I got it at either Ross or Marshalls, I can't remember which one. It was called a "card stand". It's actually holding our Christmas cards right now. :) If you're not able to find something like this, let me know - I would sell this one (just PM me).
I really like the idea of punching out the dove and allowing the gold to show through - and the personal message! That is going above and beyond. Your guests are sure to know they are treasured. I just don't know if I could do that for some of the far flung family that our parents have told us we have to invite.
I love the way you displayed your cards. Also love that you hold punched a dove for the gold paper to be seen. I will probably do something similar w/ my escort cards. That is also very nice of you to write a little note for each person. I was actually planning on writting random questions on the back of each person's escort card to help stimulate conversation (questions including how do you know the bride and groom, tell a funny story of the bride, etc... but these questions would be more specific for the person who actually knows the bride or the groom well. There would be other questions like if you were stranded on a dessert island, what 3 items would you wish you had w/ you and why, tell a funny joke or story, etc).
Sorry! I mentioned to DH that I was going to sell the card stand and he said he wants to keep it for displaying Christmas cards. I guess I spoke too soon. I will keep my eye out for another one.
@kimberlee10 - We had around 95 guests - too many more and I would have had a hard time with the notes. As it was, it took me about 7 or 8 hours - pretty much the entire plane flight home! If our engagement had been longer (it was 3 months), I could have spread it out more! There were only a few friends of my parents that I didn't know well. I had my parents help me with those notes and wrote something brief like this (just to give you an idea...): "Dear Frank, thank you so much for sharing our special day with us. I know it meant a lot to my father to have you here today. He has really enjoyed working with you over the years and is grateful for your frienship. He has told us many stories about the fishing adventures you've had together in recent months. Thanks for teaching my dad how to relax and enjoy retirement! Sincerely, 78h2o"
meowmix318 - that's a really cute idea with the questions!
I have this same card stand to and plan on doing something similar. My wedding is July 7, 2012 and will sell after the wedding. If anyone is interested in it, please PM me!
@littleprettyliz - that's awesome! everyone seemed to like it (the card stand). we must think alike...I just saw your post on the burlap cones... I did something very similar! (the white ribbon was too big in my opinion, but we already had it and figured it was passable...)
78h2o Did you get married at Ashland Springs Hotel? The pictures look exactly like it and I'm getting married there in April. I'm going to look for that same card holder next week. If I can't find something similar, and you live in that area, could I maybe borrow it?
@redheadedme - I did get married there! Congrats on your upcoming wedding. Let me know if I can help you with anything re: the site or vendors in that area. Unfortunately, I live in Maryland and the card holder is currently with me or you could totally have borrowed it. I suppose I could ship it to you in order to loan it, but I'd need you to pay shipping and I'm not sure how much that would be/whether it would be worth it. PM if you want to do that. I do have ~100 gold chargers and those burlap cones still at my parents' house in Central Point if you are interested in purchasing either. I also have a bunch of milk glass vases there that I used for a party at my parents' house the night before the wedding.
