Knowing that we would have a lot of kids at the reception, I wanted to give them something to enjoy while mom and dad partied the night away. I had already decided to give the kids coloring books and crayons and decided to kick it up a notch with my own spin on crayolas.
Step 1: Peel all the crayons. I just tossed them all in the bowl together while peeling over my trashcan.
Your trashcan gets quite colorful :D
Step 2:Break the crayons into quarters and separate into color groups. I did "Fire colors", Pinks & Purples, blues, teals and greens, & neutrals. Depending on how thick you want your crayons, place between 10-20 pieces in your molds.
Step 3:Bake at 250 degrees until fully melted. Mine took about 17 minutes. I kept an eye on them though as burnt crayons smell horrific. Make sure you keep the mold on a cookie sheet for stability.
Step 4:Steadily take them out of the oven and place on a cookie rack. Once the crayons have fully cooled (10-15min) you can pop them out with ease. If you pop them out too early, they will break or warp
Materials:Silicon Molds - $1 section at Target (cars) and $1.85 (hearts) after coupon at Michael'sCrayons - 64 count for $1 at Michael's after coupon(this makes 10-15 large crayons)
wow this is such a great idea....I love the way those look! I might have to try my hand at these for my nieces and nephew who is my flower girls and ring bearer. I think I will put it in their gift bag for thier thank you for being in the wedding!
This is awesome. I too am having about 15+ kids at my wedding. I have a huge bucket full of broken crayons that I could do this with for my wedding. Love it, thanks for posting.
I love this idea, I seen it a few weeks ago and it keeps coming back in my mind. I have to do it! I'm not having kids at my wedding, however I'm combining this idea with the activity book and leaving little favors for the kids with a little note that says "Please take this gift home for your kids to thank them for letting us have you for the night". What do you think?
