Things you need:
1. plaster of paris (25lb one at Amazon for about $25)
2. 12-18" manzanita branches (or any other strong branch you like) [I recommend http://www.bloomsandbranches.com ]
3. Classic Traditions Stephonatis Stem (I got mine a Michaels and used my weekly coupon)
4. Pot (I bought mine at Christmas Tree Shop for $1.)
5. Styrofoam bulk- (cut it to fit your pot) = $10 (you can go on Nextag.com and try to find the cheapest styrofoam. But they do sell these at Walmart, Michaels, etc.)
6. Brown Glossy Stray paint- (the branches arrive with some pealed spots, which look inconsisent to me so I decided to paint it, you don't have to.) = $3 each one (you'll probably use about 1 spray paint bottle for every 2 centerpieces, this is a guess since i haven't finished my 15 centerpieces yet. So 3x7=21 so about $21 for 15 centerpieces.)
1.) 12-18'': $162 (30branches)2.) Plaster of Paris:$25.75 (25lb)3.) Plastic Pot: $154.) Spray Paint: $21 (buy 7)5.) Blocks of styrofoam = $106.) Stephonatis Stem= $25total: $258.75
this is just to get a rough idea. So it's about $18 each centerpiece.
(I asked local floral shops and asked how much it would cost and they estimated aout $100 each one!! So I saved lots of money!!)
PS. The flowers you see around the pot I had around the house, instead of the flowers I might use blue beads, so this is missin in the calculations. I'll try to update the prices once I buy and finish everything. I'll also post pictures of the process soon!)
BUT BE AWARE, THEY TAKE A LOT OF TIME AND EFFORT!

posted by blessedgrl7 2 years agoI did these also but made the pots (boxes) I also had the blessing of having manzanita brush in my area so I went and cut my own branches. ps....there is a secret to stripping branches of there leaves. (let them dry out for about two weeks. they strip off the branch alot easier.) BUT...DO NOT LAY THEM DOWN WHEN YOU ARE DRYING THEM. IT FLATTENS THE BRANCHES AND THEY ARE NO LONGER BEAUTIFUL. So off I went to cut more branches! lol
While I was waiting for the leaves to dry out I made the bases. 12X12x4" boxes. Then you can paint them any color you like! (also time consuming!) I had to paint them ALL (16) twicw to get the desired look. Flat paint hides the flaws but gloss looks classier.
Then here comes the worst part. Find areas in your garage/home to prop up the manzanita cause while the plaster is drying you need to lean them against something or when the plaster dry's your branches are crocked. So if you are like me you won't think of that till your holding the branches and then CRAP....plaster is spilling everywhere and your pissed!
Otherwise this is a very rewarding project! They come out So beautiful. You will never get your "time" out of selling them but there is huge satisfaction in seeing evryone oooo and aweeeee at the wedding.
NOT an amatuer project.

posted by lori2314 2 years ago@gotitang you are def. right about this not being an amatuer project..even though i'm a amatuer! lol this is a lot of work and time but it is indeed rewarding..my weddin is in November and I still have about 13 more to make!
I kinda stopped and am waiting until september to start them up again.

This is almost exactly what I want [except i'd be using red roses] I also really appreciate the detailed description on how to achieve this look...I can't wait to make this happen, thanks again!! :)
