About a month ago I was scoping out the arts and crafts section at Wal-Mart when I came across this Martha Stewart Tissue Paper Bouquet Kit on sale for $6.87. We were on our way out of town because Mr. K was competing in a duathlon. I wasn’t exactly looking forward to spending lots of time by myself waiting for him to cross the finish line, so I thought the kit would be a great diversion!
Keeping warm in the car during the race, working on my flowers!
The finished product!
The kit consists of floral wire, floral tape, tissue paper, and a few flowery embellishments. It makes four varieties of blooms, with a total of 27 flowers in the kit. It took me about a day to make all of the flowers, and my hands were pretty tired when I was finished, but I think they turned out great! I put them on my dining room table and I’ve been getting lots of compliments ever since! I decided against using them for the wedding, just because of the difficulty of transporting them to Grand Cayman, but if I were getting married locally, I would definitely consider using these bright, pretty, eco-friendly flowers for my centerpieces! Another bonus is that guests can easily take them home as favors at the end of the night!
If you are considering trying out the Tissue Paper Bouquet for yourself, I have two tips for you:
Tip #1: Buy the kit at Wal-Mart. I generally don’t love shopping there (I am much more of a Target girl) but they had these kits on sale! I checked online and they are regular price (around $10), but their prices are still cheaper than Michaels (around $20).
Tip #2: This is ideally a “group project”. Making the flowers got pretty tedious after a while. When I was considering making the flowers for my wedding, I envisioned a girl’s night with wine, a chick flick, and lots and lots of paper flowers!
Using tissue paper flowers is a great way to cut costs for your wedding. They are delicate, classy, and easy on your wallet! I just wish they wouldn’t get squished in my suitcase on the way to the Caymans! Check Wal-Mart and Michaels if you are interested in trying these out for yourself!
Here are some other cute tissue paper flower kits from Martha. I bought the pink peony kit for my rehearsal bouquet!
Martha Stewart Pink Peony Bouquet (not available online but I found it at Wal-Mart!)
So I've looked at these tissue paper flowers and I was not sold on them, but the light pink one in the vase at the top of the post is absolutely gorgeous! I couldn't get to Wal-Mart's package, but I'm thinking that I have another 25% off your entire order coupon to use at Michael's. Maybe I'll head there to see if what I make is even feasible. Thanks for the inspiration!
The flowers look awesome. I am doing the same thing for my wedding. It saves so much money than purchasing real flowers, that I love, but will not be able to enjoy while gone for two weeks on my honeymoon(s). I have been making so many flowers that my basement apartment cannot handle them so I put them with the rest of my stuff in a storage unti until I need them in September!
Update: Miss Kitten included pictures of the flowers she made!
