Miss. Hibiscus’ entry about sports garters made me think about mine. While we probably won’t have a garter toss, a sports garter seems like a nice surprise for Mr. Peach after the wedding is over. I went to the website and found the Michigan one:
I really liked it, but I just couldn’t swallow the price ($34.95!!). So I set out to make my own! I went to A.C. Moore to purchase my materials (lace, yellow ribbon, blue ribbon, elastic) for a whopping grand total of $3.95!!
Cut two pieces of lace and both the ribbons about twice the width of your thigh. Cut the elastic so that it is a comfortable fit around your thigh.
First I sewed together two pieces of lace back to back to form one piece of lace with a centerline:
Then I sewed on one edge of the blue ribbon to the lace, where the centerline was formed, like below (so that it appears that one side of the lace will be longer than the other).

Then I added the yellow ribbon (*NOTE: I should have added the yellow ribbon to the blue ribbon BEFORE adding it to the lace. It would have been easier):

I got so excited I forgot to take some pictures >_< sowieee!! But it’s really simple. You sew the OTHER side of the blue ribbon to the lace and then string the elastic through. You can use a safety pin to help you guide it through. Then sew up the two ends together and viola~! Not too shabby, eh? I also saved $30! woohoo~
It lacks the sports pin, but eh, whatever. I did find the exact same Michigan football pin for $4.95 so maybe I’ll add it later.
