I have been working on these STDs for MONTHS and they are finally DONE and I am sending them out tomorrow morning... WHOO HOO!!!!!!!
And to celebrate finishing my STDs I thought that I would write a DIY manual.
I got the idea for my ribbon STDs from good old Martha.
I decided to do everything step by step and put the ribbon together last and so the first thing I did was cut out all of the numbers to create the date. I used Fiskars ShapeXpress cutters with the Fiskars number template and cut the letters out of card-stock that I bought from Michaels.
To create the bows I partially made them before hand by cutting small strips of ribbon and then folding and gluing them (with a hot glue gun) into a bow shape.
In order to complete the bow I tied a knot around the center of the pre-folded bow in the position I wanted it along the main ribbon.
After the first bow was in place I added the first number. I cut a slit into the top of the numbers so that I could slide them along the ribbon into their appropriate place. I then glued the back of the number onto the ribbon so that the number wouldn't move along the ribbon on it's own.
I continued this process until all the numbers and bows were in place.
Finally, I added the information tag to the main ribbon. To create the information tag I printed the information on label paper. I stuck the label onto the same card-stock used for the numbers and cut the card-stock into a tag shape. I then cut a slit in the tag so that I could slide it onto the main ribbon to a position under the last bow and then I glued it into place.
To complete the ribbon I trimmed the edges of the ribbon into a point.
I also added an envelope liner to the envelopes. To create the liner I copied and pasted the words "Save The Date" to fill an entire one page word document. I changed the font colour of each "Save The Date" phrase so that the colour switched between pink and grey. I then cut the liner to the size of the envelope and glued it into place.
Lastly, I folded the ribbon so that when it was pulled out of the envelope it would fall out in the right orientation.
I have seen this before but I never had anyone explain to me how to do it. You did a great job. I hope everyone loves them!! (I'm sure they will!) God Bless You and Good Luck!
I have the same Fiskar cutter and cant figure out how to work it for the lif of me! Do you have any tips to get the damn thing to work? BTW your STD look fab bravo!
These look great! I am actually in the process of doing our Save the Dates - which involve cutting (what seems thousands) of pendents -- i am THRILLED to see something equally tedious completey & looking AMAZING. You have inspired me to keep on cutting. :) They are fabulous! I hope that you're wedding was too!
