Our DIY Lace Wedding Invitations

posted 9 months ago in Invitations

We mailed our completed wedding invitations today! Phew, what a great feeling! After weeks and weeks of hard work, we are finally finished. Here is our completed project:

My fiance and I designed and printed the invitations at home - www.paperandmore.com was awesome! I also made lace belly bands (I bought my lace from http://www.debslace-n-trims.com/) complete with sewn on button to secure, hole-punched and hand-stamped each invitation tag and tied 1/8 inch ribbon on each invitation! I had a hard time finding the right color ribbon in the correct size, but I finally found my eggplant/plum ribbon at http://www.jkmribbon.com.

All of the work was totally worth it, but we're sooo happy to get them in mail! :)

wow that looks great!! i am looking to do something similar with lace. I was wondering, how did you attach the lace together so it would stay in one piece and slice on and off easily?

How much were the stamps?  I'm thinking of doing something similar but I don't want the postage to be crazy.

Hi CPD - I found that stretch lace worked really well to hold the folders together. To secure the lace, I actually, sewed buttons onto the back of each band, here's a picture:

A quick tip if you go the button route - be sure to only buy 2 hole buttons, definitely cuts your time in half when sewing! It doesn't sound like a big deal now, but trust me - makes a huge difference when you're sewing 80+ :) Happy making!

Hi! The stamps were 64 cents and I bought them on the usps.com website. I went to the post office a couple of days before sending to check the weight and they came in at 64 cents - no problem. Well, come time to mail them - after sealing the invitations, their thickness made them cost extra! Who knew... so, we had to add an extra 20 cent stamp at the post office. It was a bit of a bummer bc all they had was the George Washington bust stamp; totally wasn't in my postage stamp plan but is still ok. I don't think many people noticed. The RSVP evelope stamp is 44 cents and was ordered from usps.com :)

Love these! Where did you get your pocketfolds and envelopes?

I really love these! I think I will copy this idea.  Where did you get the brown paper and evelop? Also do you have the template for the invitation? Thank you.

This is probably a silly question but I want to add a similar ribbon to our invites to dress them up a bit also - is that what caused the increase in postage? Other than a small ribboon; I"m only mailing a flat 8.5X5.5 Card with a reply card half its size; I know without the ribbon I can get away with a 44cent stamp; I'm just wondering if adding the bow will cause too much bulk (or even weight) to it?

Thanks!!
