I've been reading the Bee for a loonnnnng time now, but this is my first time posting! Exciting!!
Anyway, I'm having a peacock wedding with eggplant purple and bits of sage green. I am a major DIY bride and one of my first projects was to make my own peacock feather boutonnieres!
They were pretty simple. I started with 2 feathers (bought 100 feathers on ebay for around 20 bucks), kept them sturdy with thicker floral wire, added a sprig (?) of some kind for a little extra somethin', wrapped it all in floral tape, and then wrapped ribbon around it. The groom's is a little different, with a bleached peacock feather, purple feather, and white sprig thingy.
What do you all think?? I like them! Does anyone think I should add or remove anything? I'd love input!
These are absolutely beautiful! How exactly did you keep the feathers sturdy? Did you glue the floral wire to the back of the feather? I want to make something very similar to this for my wedding and you did a fantastic job! Could you post a step-by step of how you did it?
Hmm just noticed not all my pics worked...oh well. I ended up changing the groom's bout because I decided the purple feather wasn't the right purple, haha, so its a little different now.
MsLadyBugJ I actually only used the floral wire for the first couple, until I realized it really wasn't even necessary at all! I was using it to wrap around the base to keep it secure, but it was completely unnecessary so I quit doing that.
First I trimmed up the peacock feathers- Cut off the stems and trimmed around the eyes.
Then I positioned one just a bit lower than the other, positioned the purple sprig in front, and wrapped the floral tape tightly around it to the bottom.
Lastly, I just wrapped the ribbon around the floral tape and used a dot of hot glue to secure it at the bottom!
