Wow that is cute and very unique! I am sure your guests were playing with their pinwheels while heading over to their seats. Must have made some fun pictures.
6” dowels (I had 12” dowels and my Dad cut them in half)
8.5x11 scrapbooking paper (cut into 4 equal squares, approx 4x4)
Quilting pins or thumb-tacks
Hot Glue
Cardstock
Scissors
Pencil
Ruler
Hole Punch
Directions
Start with a 4x4 in piece of scrapbooking paper.
Draw diagonal lines across your square to join up the corners. Then, mark the center of the square with a dot, and draw an additional dot at each of the corners.
Use a pair of scissors to cut along the diagonal lines. Then, use a hole punch or pin to punch a hole through each of your dots.
Line the dots on the outer edge of your pinwheel up with the dot in the center. Push a tack through the dots to hold everything together. Then, push the pin into the side of the dowel.
(or what I did, was I had my Dad pre-drill holes into the dowel…he’s got the tools and the knowledge…while I was able to push the pins into the wooden dowel after soaking in water, it took forever, so the pre-drilled dowels cut down on time). You now have a working pinwheel!
To ensure the pins would not come out of the dowel (we had several kids under the age of 10 at the wedding and I envisioned them stabbing themselves or others) I hot glued the pins in place. And yes they still spun.
To make the name tags I used cardstock and mail merge with names and table numbers. The text was right justified. Once printed I cut along the lines and punched two holes for the dowel to stick in.
And there you have it. Hopefully you can follow along.
LOVE IT!! and those are my colours too!! I bought a buch of scrapbooking books to make bunting for the place cards but this is such a fun cute idea! And you can have them outside for the ceremony too!
Only problem is the back of the scrap booking paper I have is white on the back...but I guess I could glue the two pages together back to...?
I made these pinwheels for escort cards. Everyone thought it was different and fun. For me the best part was that it was cheap and easy to make.
