I made these silver ones for my two matrons of honor so that they stand out a little bit. The other girls got their own in their favorite colors, just to have for fun or to wear for the bachelorette party :)
I was using satin and I starched it and ironed it first. At each fold, I ironed it. I actually used my straight iron :) I cut 9 circles for each flower but you could do more or less. They look pretty with 6 petals too. My circles were about 4" across but I like a 3" one better...totally your preference. I did a 3.5" circle for the tulle inside but you could do it the same size as the outer layer and it'd look good. I just layered it together before pinching the middle and the sides in to string it.
After I strung it, I did a few cross-stitches too. I basically ran the string/needle from side to side connecting the petals to each other for more strength, and made sure I got all of them. I also went ahead and stitched the back side of the petals together more so that it lays flatter. You could do the front side to pull them closer in, if you wanted it that way instead.
I had a button so I sewed that in too, but also glued it down so it'd be flat on there.
I cut a little circle of satin and hot glued it onto the back. I originally put an alligator clip on it, but then I tried it on in my hair and they were never sitting right. So I bought some combs to use instead so that the flower sits flatter. However, the comb doesn't really sit in your hair that easily either....oh well. My Matrons of Honor are both going to wear this silver one, but they'll have an updo so they should be able to secure it in there pretty well with the comb.
