Ok, so my fiance and I were at Home Depot looking for supplies to build a lightbox (some crazy idea he came up with, I just went along like the good future wife that I am). I'm glad I went because I hatched up a good idea. See pics.
I was walking by and saw these beauties!! For only $6.47, they are light clamps.
Then I saw these red lights on clearance..
We plan on spray painting the lamp clamps in black and my FI will attach them to a plywood base we have laying around (from hurricane season).
This was the result in my bedroom. Ive attached the before and after effect. These are flood lights so one light results in a lot of color so I wont need 16 of them! I will only need 4-6 of them.
Tell me what you think? I think its pretty good.
Here is the breakdown and total cost:
$.074 - flood light
$6.47 - Light clamp
$0.00 - Plywood (already had)
$0.00 - Black spray paint (already had from another project, but we bought the cheapest $0.88 kind anyways).
$7.21 each!!!! Can't beat that.
$43.26 *TOTAL UPLIGHTING PROJECT*
We were quoted at least $400 for uplighting, so we beat it by $360!! Woohoo ,yay for DIY.
He thinks that if you buy a smaller bulb to fit into it then you buy the color sheets from the lighting companies (they are pretty cheap, you can find them on ebay, look under par can, then find a seller that specializes in them, they should also sell the color sheets and gels) . If you had a color sheet you could probably make any color. I can't imagine it not working.
BTW - I wasn't sure if you guys would think my DIY was ghetto or not...I mean its pretty amazing how much color it gives off and the ambiance completely changed once it was in...Thanks for the compliments :)
ALSO - do you guys think it looks pink or red? I'm doing a black and white wedding and I haven't 100% decided on fuschia or red. Do you think this color light would work either way?
Hi! I think its so frustrating to get a high quote on something that is so basic. WooHooo for you for finding a way around the "pro" set up. I think it looks a bit more fusia than true red but the translation on my screan might be off a bit. Id like to ask..Im e x t r e a m l y new to the planning and wonder..where will you use this "uplightinig'?
@Massagebee - Uplighting can create moods or effects like these:
I only had pics on hand of pink uplighting, but you get the idea. It really does create a different mood for a room. ANY room truely can be transformed.

posted by gotitang 1 year agoDo you have any suggestions for any other colors? Could you paint the clear lights or would that just be a big no-no?

posted by soontobekatieb 1 year agoIt looks VERY red to me. Can you post pics of the light itself or how you have it set up? What are you going to clamp it to? I would love to do this.
